Surgical Removal

Nobody likes to go for surgery, no matter how minor. While it is highly disliked, surgery is a treatment option for keloids and we recommend it. Surgical removal is often for larger and older keloids. The benefits of surgery are high including immediate reduction is symptoms, especially, itching, and pain. After surgery, we inject steroids and apply compression (using a specialized pressure device where appropriate) to the wound site for months to prevent the growth of other keloids. We also use radiation therapy with surgery for bigger keloids; a technique that has proven to be effective.
